Executive Officers

Governor Josh Burns

My name is Josh Burns and I am the 2020 Youth Governor of New Mexico. This will be my fourth and final year in program. I attend Eldorado High School where I am a member of senate, educators rising, and bowling. This year as governor I want to give back to this program because it has given me many opportunites, and I have worked hard this year to bring in new delegates and schools into the program. After high school I plan to study Political Science and Secondary Education, but have yet to commit to a college. Thank you for supporting me all these years!

Lt. Governor Olivia Traub

I am Olivia Traub, and I’m so excited to be a part of Youth & Government and can’t wait to see what this year brings! As a junior at Eldorado High School, I’ve had some time to dive into plenty of clubs and activities. Over the past three years I’ve been on the Speech and Debate team, bowling club, and Model UN. Although this year I’ve had the opportunity to serve as an officer in the Eldorado Best Buddies Chapter, the Student Body Treasurer, and the newly developed Peer to Peer program. Though I can strongly say that no other club has brought me the opportunities that Youth & Government has. From serving as Forum Co-Chair to Lt. Governor, I’ve been able to experience so much through this program. I’m so excited to see everyone at the 2020 State Conference, and to see what the upcoming years brings for this program!

Secretary of State Karla Ortiz

I’m Karla Ortiz! I am currently a senior at the Albuquerque Institute for Math and Science. This year I’m happy to be the Secretary of State and I hope to encourage people to run and participate in the elections. I joined the program in my freshman year of high school and I have loved it since then. I love being able to have a voice and be passionate and informed on important topics. For the past three years, I’ve participated in the legislative branch and was able to attend the Conference on National Affairs this past summer.

Outside of Youth and Government, I’m on my school’s varsity soccer team, I’m the senior class secretary, and I participate in Model United Nations. I usually spend most of my time at my job which I love because it allows me to meet so many new people. I plan on attending UNM to major in dentistry and Spanish.

If y’all have any questions don’t be afraid to ask, I’m excited to meet everyone at conference!

Land Commissioner Avery Taylor

Hi, my name is Avery Taylor, and I am a senior at AIMS. This is my fourth and, unfortunately, final year in the program, and I was very excited to attend the Conference on National Affairs this summer. Outside of YAG, I play varsity soccer and basketball for my school, and participate in the Model UN Program. I also have a job at a well-known regional pizza establishment, which has taught me a lot about leadership and people skills. If you want to find me, I’m likely going to be there. Constantly. I am super duper excited to be the first Land Commissioner and I can’t wait to develop this position into something people want to run for! I’m here to answer any questions about YAG, or or my job, and would love to help delegates get excited about the program. I’m so glad I get to have this position and I can’t wait to meet all the delegates!!

Outside of the Youth and Government program, I am a fellow for the Santa Fe Council on International Relations, I am in Student Council, and I play varsity tennis. Forum Co-Chair Gaby Delgado

Hi my name is Gaby Delgado. I am currently a sophomore at East Mountain High School. This is my second year in the program, last year I participated in Legislative, was the Sergeant in Arms and went to the Conference on National Affairs. I am very excited to be working with all Forum Participants and hopefully have beneficial discussion and some fun! As Forum Co-Chair I want to make Forum as interactive and conversation sparking as I can, my goal is to prepare all of the Forum delegates to go into Legislative the following year! Outside of Youth and Government I am in Student Council, FRC (robotics), East Mountain Newspaper, Speech and Debate and a STEM challenge group! All of these clubs have brought me immense joy but none of them have given me the opportunities and friendships like Youth and Government has. I originally joined YAG because my sister pushed me to and ever since I joined the program I am so grateful to her, it’s been one of my most enjoyed decisions. I’m looking forward to see what the next few years brings the program and hopefully I can be an influential part of it.
My email is gfdelgado369@gmail.com let me know if you have any questions!

Media Director Madison Kelsh

My name is Madison Kelsh and I am a senior at East Mountain High school. This is my second year serving as your Media Director and I cannot wait to show off everyone’s hard work this year! I joined this program freshman year without knowing there was a Media Branch, and since then it has fully transformed. I am so proud of the hard work that the Media Delegates have done the past year. The media branch has truly blossomed and I cannot wait for it to continue growing.

Outside of Youth and Government I run social media for Model UN and my school’s student council. I have played varsity volleyball for the past three years and finished the season in the top 10 in the state for blocking! On top of National Honor Society and volunteering for the New Mexico Game and Fish I recently started my own marketing company, Marketing In Motion LLC. I assist other companies to promote their products, focusing on Real Estate. I plan on gradutaing CNM with my assocaites in Liberal Arts in May and attending UNM in the fall to work towards an MBA.
