State Director

Hannah Wood earned her Master’s degree in Public Administration (2014) and Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English (2011) from UNM. Hannah was a participant in Youth and Government from 2004-2006, serving in the Legislative, Judicial, and Executive branches. Since 2006, Hannah has returned as an alumni advisor, and was a founding member and President of the YMCA NM Youth and Government Alumni Association at UNM from 2008-2011. Hannah is also a co-leader of the YMCA of Central New Mexico's Youth Unity Project. Hannah loves supporting New Mexico youth, spending time with her dogs, and working to promote civic engagement.

State Coordinator

Mara McGough-Madueña-Muchow earned her Master’s degree in Secondary Education (2014) and Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and History (2007) from UNM. Mara was a participant in Youth and Government when she was in high school, participating in the Legislative branch, as well as Media. Mara is currently a high school teacher and it was through the impassioned request of a student that she became involved with NMYAG as an Delegation Advisor for her school. Her experience in her first year as a Delegation Advisor was so impactful for her and her students, she has since dedicated more time to the program by assisting the State Director with a variety of program elements. She believes this program encourages civic virtue in a very personal way for the young people who participate and has first-hand seen it change young peoples' lives.




Social Media & Marketing Coordinator

Madison Kelsh earned her Associates degree in Liberal Arts in 2020 as well as graduating from East Mountain High School. During her time in high school she was involved in student council, NHS, and Youth & Government. Within this program she was the Video, and Media Director for three years. Madison now attends The University of New Mexico pursing a degree in Business with a concentration in film and marketing. She currently works a production company and began a business generating marketing materials for Realtors. Madison hopes to continue growing the media branch and helping students find their passion. She is also very tall and has a great sense of humor.

Social Media & Marketing Coordinator

Thomas Valenzuela attended high school at East Mountain High School and graduated from Skyline High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is currently attending Central New Mexico Community College pursuing an Associates degree. Thomas works as a graphic designer for a political consulting firm in Albuquerque, New Mexico while working full-time for his family business. During his time in high school, he was involved in both New Mexico Youth & Government and Idaho Youth & Government focusing on photography, media, and graphic design. He made history as the first and only Idaho delegate at the Conference on National Affairs. Thomas is excited to help promote Youth & Government and support the program grow through social media and digital forms.
