FAQ

What is Pre-Legislative Session?

A:

Pre-Legislative Session is the first event of the year, hosted in February. Pre-Leg is an opportunity for all of the students to learn what the branches are and what is expected of them as participants in that branch. The information will be easy to understand for new students and returning students will be able to see the changes that were made, because there will be several. This event gives students an opportunity to experience all four branches and will help form their decision on what branch to serve in.

What do I wear to Youth and Government?

A:

All Youth in Government events (Orientation, Pre-Legislative Session, and Conference) are business formal. This mean delegates are expected to dress to impress. Don’t know what business formal looks like? Watch this quick video made by Minnesota Youth in Government. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLjAO480tP8

What is the best branch for new delegates to participate in?

A:

There is not any one place that would be best for a new delegate. It really depends on what you are interested in! If you are interested in debating, understanding case law, and in the judicial processes, be an attorney or apply to be a justice. If you are interested in learning how our state legislator works, then be a representative or senator. Do you like to write or create videos? Then consider participating in press.

Can I participate in multiple branches?

A:

Yes, although preparation in order to do so is very timely and first time delegates are encourage not to “double-dip”. If you are a returning delegate and are interested in participating in multiple branches, please consult your advisor before hand.

Is it okay to email the officers and the state director with questions?

A:

Yes, that is what they are there for! They would be more than happy to assist you with anything you need before our various events.
